Xcitex Products now Vista Compatible

April 21, 2007

For xcitex.com publication only

Xcitex engineers today have completed testing on all MiDAS 4.0 and ProAnalyst products for new Windows Vista O/S compatibility.

MiDAS 4.0 Express, MiDAS 4.0 Standard and MiDAS 4.0 Full Editiions were designed with new .NET/DirectShow technology, so full Vista compatibility has been confirmed. All ProAnalyst Editions, including 3-D and Flight Path Editions, have been tested for compatibility. Re-saving AVI movie files is not possible at this time with ProAnalyst products due to a known bug within Vista regarding saving AVI files. Until Microsoft fixes this bug within Vista, Xcitex is advising users expriencing this problem to save images as sequences of bitmaps, jpegs or tiffs.

As always, updates to Xcitex products are available for free download from our Download Center. All Xcitex end users are eligible for a free Vista-compatible update, and Xcitex does not require maintenance contracts or charge hidden service fees.

Xcitex Donates ProAnalyst for Prostheses Research

November 15, 2006

Xcitex has donated ProAnalyst Professional Edition to the LeTourneau Engineering Global Solutions (LEGS) initiative. The mission of the LEGS initiative is to design, create, and test high-quality lower extremity artificial limbs (prostheses) for patients across the under-developed world. Since it began in 2004, the LEGS Team has traveled to Kenya and Bangladesh. The hope is one day to enable the establishment of multiple training hubs across the continents of Africa, Asia and South America, where its prosthetic can easily be manufactured and fitted and where amputees can receive rehabilitation at the same time.

Xcitex's donation of ProAnalyst adds significant capabilities to the LeTourneau University's Biomechanics Research Laboratory, which is equipped with a state-of-the-art motion analysis system for detailed gait analysis. Quantitative biomechanical analysis is critical in the design, testing, and implementation of sophisticated and economical prosthetic devices. Project Director Dr. Roger Gonzalez says, "My desire is to assist medical relief agencies with the engineering services needed to overcome some of their most pressing prosthetic and orthotic needs. We will provide biomechanical engineering assistance that is not only affordable, but scientifically well-grounded." Xcitex is fortunate to be a contributor to this charitable project, whose plans for 2007 include work in Bangladesh and Sierra Leone.

UC Berkeley Poly-PEDAL Lab Selects ProAnalyst for Biomechanical Motion Analysis

October 27, 2006

For xcitex.com publication only

The UC Berkeley Poly-PEDAL Lab, led by Professor Robert Full, has selected ProAnalyst software for its research in comparative physiology and biomechanics. Professor Full, a co-founder of Berkeley's Center for Integrative Biomechanics in Education and Research (CIBER), and Thomas Libby, the CIBER staff technical director, evaluated and selected the software for the lab, which studies arthropod, amphibian, and reptilian locomotion to quantify the mechanics of muscular and skeletal movement. The markerless feature tracking capabilities of ProAnalyst are ideal for the live animal research carried out in the Poly-PEDAL Lab.

By integrating biology with computer science and engineering, the Poly-PEDAL team works towards simulating animal movement from the nervous system through muscles to limb and body movements. Professor Full's selection of ProAnalyst 3-D Professional for motion analysis rounds out a state-of-the-art facility that includes equipment for physiological, biochemical, and biomechanical study. Diverse applications of the research include robotics, animatronics, and animation.

Support for Cine (.CIN) file format added to ProAnalyst

September 8, 2006

For xcitex.com publication only

Xcitex engineers today released the newest version of ProAnalyst that will support Cine (.CIN) file formats produced by the Phantom brand high speed cameras from Vision Research Corporation. Videos produced by Phantom cameras are stored natively in CIN format, a proprietary file format based on Vision Research compression algorithms, resulting in smaller file sizes. All ProAnalyst editions (Lite, Professional and 3-D Professional) will now allow users to simply open the CIN files without conversion to traditional AVI format.

In addition to CIN, ProAnalyst supports most major movie file formats, including AVI, AVI 2.0, MOV, and MPG. In addition, ProAnalyst supports still image sequences based on JPG, TIFF, BMP, and other formats. The new version of ProAnalyst is a free update for all registered ProAnalyst users, and can be downloaded from the Download Center at www.xcitex.com.

Xcitex Engineers Win 2006 Sports Emmy Award for Innovative Technical Achievement

May 1, 2006

For general distribution, web and print publication

New York, NY – Four Xcitex engineers -- Brian Anthony, Peter Carellas, Jesse Hong and Alex Shopov -- were awarded the the George Wensel Outstanding Innovative Technical Achievement Award for their work with CBS Sports' golf broadcasts. The award, granted to CBS for their SwingVision program segment, recognizes outstanding achievement by individuals and programs broadcast throughout the 2005 calendar year.

The Emmy Awards were announced by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences at a special ceremony at Frederick P. Rose Hall, Home of Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City. More than 1,100 leading sports broadcasters, athletes and executives attended the starstudded ceremony. The Sports Emmy Award recipients were chosen by a Blue Ribbon Panel of their peers from over 700 entries in 28 categories.

SwingVision from Tech Imaging Services uses high-speed cameras from Photron that shoot at 12,500 frames per second (over 400x faster than normal cameras) to capture unique views of golfers' swings, including close up views of the ball impact. Xcitex provided StrikeForce technology to automatically extract and analyze data from the SwingVision cameras to compute the ball speed, club speed, ball spin rate, launch angle and other parameters, which are then overlaid onto the video signal. In addition, Xcitex engineers provided on-demand, creative on-screen displays of the measured data, including color-coded swing planes and club-head tracking paths.

Xcitex StrikeForce technology is used in the broadcast industry and in the design of specialized measurement systems for athletes and sports equipment manufacturers. The 2005 RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship, aired on ESPN and ESPN2 in December, also featured StrikeForce analysis of golfer performance.

Xcitex Introduces Affordable 3-D Tracking and Motion Analysis Package

March 1, 2006

For general distribution, web and print publication

Xcitex Inc. announced today the release of a new edition of its heralded ProAnalyst line of software products for motion analysis from video. ProAnalyst 3-D Professional Edition provides the ability to automatically extract and analyze motion of objects in 3-D from stereo cameras.

Peter Carellas, President of Xcitex, commented that, "ProAnalyst 3-D is the first true 3-dimensional motion analysis product for engineers and scientists that is both applicable to a large cross-section of the analytic community and affordable. Traditional packages -- far less featured and typically targeted at one specific industry such as ballistics or kinetics -- have cost between $20,000 and $50,000. We have again reset the feature-performance/price bar and stayed true to our strategy of bringing to market powerful, modern software for today's generation of motion analysis engineers"

ProAnalyst 3-D Professional is built on the successful ProAnalyst Professional foundation. The 3-D Professional edition includes all the features of the current 2-D Professional edition. Dr. Jesse Hong, Director of Analytical Products at Xcitex noted that, "the correspondence of multiple cameras studying the some motion is done after the initial analysis of each camera in 2-dimensional space. This way, users need only learn one tracking and analysis technique, then build the 3-D visualization as a final step. Our automated scene calibration technique further simplifies the construction of the 3-D analysis and motion graphs."

ProAnalyst 3-D Professional Edition is available for immediate shipment.
